Beijing for the first time became the world’s capital of billionaires

During the year, 33 new billionaires appeared in the Chinese capital, at the same time in New York – only seven.

At the same time, 21 million people live in Beijing, which is 2.5 times more than the population of New York (8.4 million).

The richest resident of Beijing is Zheng Yiming, the founder of ByteDance, which owns TikTok. His fortune is estimated at $35.6 billion. In New York, the richest is the ex-mayor of the city and businessman Michael Bloomberg, whose fortune reaches $59 billion.

The US still leads the world in the number of billionaires, with 724. China ranks second with 698 people. Over the past year, a record 210 new billionaires have emerged in China. In third place is India (140), followed by Germany (136) and Russia (117).

On April 6, it was reported that Forbes published the 35th annual ranking of the richest people in the world. There are 123 Russian billionaires on the list, up from 102 in 2019. The ranking is still topped by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose fortune grew by $64 billion over the year to $177 billion.
