Forbes named the richest athlete in the world


Forbes magazine has compiled a list of the highest paid athletes in the world. First place went to American boxer Floyd Mayweather.

According to the American edition, in 2017 the athlete earned $285 million. Of these, the boxer received $275 million for the fight with the Irishman Conor McGregor, the rest came from advertising contracts.

In second place is the striker of the Argentina national team and Barcelona Lionel Messi. His income was $ 111 million, including $ 84 million for a contract with the Catalan club.

The leader of last year’s rating, the Portuguese striker of Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, earned $108 million ($61 million – contract, $47 million – advertising).

The top ten also includes fighter Conor McGregor ($99 million), basketball player LeBron James ($85.5 million), Swiss tennis player Roger Federer ($77.2 million), basketball player Stephen Curry ($76.9 million), and American football players Matthew Ryan ($67.3 million) and Matthew Stafford ($59.5 million).

Not a single woman entered the top 100 highest paid athletes. The list also does not include Russian athletes.
