Film director George Lucas has been named the richest celebrity of 2017 by Forbes magazine. The Star Wars franchise author is worth an estimated $5.5 billion.
Lucas’ co-author on the series about the adventures of Indiana Jones, film director Steven Spielberg, took second place in the rating ($ 3.6 billion). The third position is held by TV presenter Oprah Winfrey ($2.8 billion).
In the top five – basketball player Michael Jordan ($1.4 billion), illusionist David Copperfield ($875 million). The author of detectives James Patterson closes the top ten with $730 million.
The rating is updated annually. The top five of the ranking remained the same as in 2016. Over the past year, Lucas’ fortune has increased by $900 million, while Spielberg has lost $100 million.
When calculating fortunes, not only net financial income or capital in shares and securities is taken into account, but also the value of real estate and valuable property of the nominees, RIA Novosti specifies.
As networthrating.com wrote, one of the magazine’s traditional ratings ranks already deceased stars, whose work still generates income. The first place in the list was taken by Michael Jackson – after his death in 2009, the singer’s work brought the heirs $ 1 billion.
